2018-Present Primarily teaching Rush University graduate students entering health services management or those interested in the field. Instructor and course developer for Healthcare Corporate Finance (HSM 614) and Managerial Finance (HSM 644). Instructor in Health Economics (HSM 628) and guest lecturer for the graduate health services management capstone class (HSM 596), the physician assistant professionalism and practice class (PHA 513), and the issues and trends in health care (HSC 467) for undergraduate students.

2021-Present Faculty in the American College of Healthcare Executives co-teaching a six-week course on Population, Community, and Public Health.

2017-2018 Taught graduate students entering health services management or those interested in the field. Instructor and course developer for Leadership & Strategy (PH 8051), Healthcare Finance (PH 7031), Healthcare Economics (PH 7032), Community Assessment & Planning (PH 7060), and Health Services & Policy (PH 8060). Guest lectures have also been provided to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine on insurance, drug pricing and policy.

2015-2017 Instructor for the capstone experience (HMP 5930) in the MHA’s Healthcare Finance Area of Concentration. The class addressed competency gaps not met by the existing finance courses and includes either the development of a publishable paper or the completion of a practitioner-based project.

 

2008-2017 Instructor of the financial aspects of healthcare classes (HMP 571) at Saint Louis University.  The third of three required healthcare finance and accounting classes, HMP 571 addressed many of the unique financial aspects of healthcare including actuarial and risk premium determination for health insurers, facility and provider reimbursement, risk and incentive pool arrangements, and contract negotiation.

 

2008–2017 Numerous guest lectures for the Saint Louis University School of Medicine (via the Bander Center for Medical Business Ethics), Marketing (HMP 534), Health Economics (HMP 520), Science, Theory & Practice (PHS 605 – Saint Louis University Doctoral Program), Foundations of Global Public Health Practice (PUBH 501), SLU Department of Anesthesiology (Resident Training Program), and Healthcare Financing and Business Planning (Saint Louis University School of Law). Many of the lectures focused on long term financial planning and financial feasibility models, pricing, strategy, global health, health insurance, and reimbursement methodologies.

 

2012-2014 Co-Instructor in the Mercy Executive Training Program which identifies high potential candidates within the company and provides additional administrative training.  Faculty from the Department of Health Management and Policy at Saint Louis University are paired with senior Mercy Health System executives to develop additional functional area capacity.

 

2008-2013 Instructor of the corporate finance (HMP 570) classes at Saint Louis University.  The corporate finance class specifically addresses many of the typical corporate finance subjects like, but not limited to, financial model building, development of appropriate financial decision making tools, and integration of decisions into the long-range plan of the organization.

 

2009-Present Co-writer of the Department of Health Management and Policy’s competency-specific comprehensive exam questions. Efforts also include selection of the cases and the examination of students.

 

2009-2011 Faculty advisor to the Saint Louis University teams for the University of Alabama – Birmingham and National Association of Health Services Executives Case Competitions.

 

2013 Doctoral exam writer and reviewer for the Saint Louis University School of Public Health Doctoral Program.  Duties included provision of background reading, development of questions and answer keys, and examination of candidates.

 

2012 Contributing advisor to the Saint Louis University School of Law representatives for the Transactional Health Law Competition.

 

2009 Member of team, in conjunction with USAID, that provided training to healthcare executives from the Republic of Georgia.  Work was also done to develop a healthcare finance course in healthcare finance at the University of Georgia (Tiblisi).

 

2007 Instructor of the capstone corporate finance class (HMP 607) for the MHSA/MPH programs at the University of Michigan.  The class focused on capital expenditure decisions, capital financing decisions, financial feasibility, financial planning, cash management, and the financial aspects of prepayment programs.

 

2006-2008 Guest lecturer for the healthcare organizations case class (HMP 690) at the University of Michigan. 

 

2006–2007 Advisor to the University of Michigan’s 2006 and 2007 representatives to the Everett V. Fox Student Case Competition (sponsored by the National Association of Health Services Executives). The team placed first in the competition both years.

 

2006 Graduate student instructor for the corporate finance (HMP 607) and financial accounting classes (HMP 608) in the University of Michigan Department of Health Management and Policy.
